North Shore switchboard upgrades, done right the first time

Fast assessments, honest advice and safe, compliant switchboard upgrades from experienced North Shore electricians.

Overview

What is a switchboard upgrade?

A switchboard upgrade replaces an older fuse box or board with a modern one fitted with RCD protection, clearly labelled circuits and quality circuit breakers. Electrical Plus carries out these upgrades across Auckland's North Shore, led by an EWRB registered electrician with over 30 years' experience. Most residential upgrades take a day, and every one is certified.

Why upgrade your switchboard

RCD protection can help save lives

Older homes across Auckland often still have fuse boxes or switchboards with limited RCD protection. While they may have worked reliably for many years, today's homes place very different demands on their electrical systems.

A modern switchboard provides improved protection against electric shock and electrical faults, while also making your home's electrical system easier to identify, maintain and expand in the future.

If you're unsure about the condition of your switchboard, we can inspect it and explain what, if anything, needs upgrading.

What it costs

How much does a switchboard upgrade cost?

$1,350 to $2,300

Most residential switchboard upgrades on the North Shore fall in this band. In many cases we can give you an initial estimate from a photo of your existing switchboard. If a site visit is required, we will let you know before proceeding.

The process

How a switchboard upgrade runs

  1. 01

    Send us a photo

In many cases we can give you an initial estimate from a photo of your existing switchboard, at no charge.

  2. 02

    On-site assessment

If a site visit is needed to price the work properly, we will tell you before proceeding rather than after.

  3. 03

    Upgrade day

The power is off while the board is replaced and tested. We tell you beforehand and keep the outage as short as is practical.

  4. 04

    Certify and hand over

You get an electrical compliance certificate and Record of Inspection, and the option of a QR code on the board linking to your home's electrical record.

Detail

Switchboards, RCDs and the wiring standard

AS/NZS 3000 is the standard that electrical work in New Zealand must follow. Modern switchboards use RCD protection to quickly switch off the power if an electrical fault is detected, helping protect people from electric shock.

When we upgrade a switchboard, we check your existing wiring and circuits first, then install the correct protection to suit your home.

All work is carried out by, or supervised by, Registered Electricians. Electrical Plus is led by Andrew Baker, a Registered Electrician with over 30 years of experience, registered with the Electrical Workers Registration Board. Every upgrade is completed with an electrical compliance certificate and a Record of Inspection, and backed by our Lifetime Workmanship Warranty.
