Planning your renovation or new build
Plan it before we wire it
The best electrical installations start long before the first cable is run. Whether you're renovating or building new, we'll work with you to plan the electrical layout around the way you'll use your home.
From lighting and switching to power, appliances, data and outdoor areas, thinking it through before construction begins helps avoid compromises later.
Every project includes a customised electrical layout tailored to your home. Thinking ahead saves changes later: a well-planned electrical layout helps avoid costly changes during construction and makes sure lighting, power and technology end up where you actually need them.

Our renovation process
How do you work ahead to keep the project moving?
A renovation or new build involves multiple trades working to a tight schedule, so good planning and communication are essential.
At Electrical Plus, we think ahead. Where practical, we'll pre-wire or prepare future stages while walls and ceilings are open, helping avoid unnecessary return visits and delays later in the project.
We also clearly label cabling and keep track of what's been allowed for, so the installation remains organised from pre-wire through to final fit-off.
How we keep a project organised
- Keep you informed Clear communication throughout the job so you know what's happening and what's coming next.
- Check plans before we start We review layouts, lighting, power and equipment requirements early to avoid changes later.
- Keep the project moving We plan ahead so when it's time for final fit-off, we're organised, efficient and in and out without holding up the project.
- Plan for what's coming next Allow for future stages while walls and ceilings are still open.
- Label everything Clear identification makes final fit-off and future work easier.
- Coordinate with other trades Electrical work happens when it needs to, without holding up the project.

Detail
Pre-wire, fit-off and certification
A new build or a substantial renovation splits into two electrical visits. Pre-wire happens while the framing is exposed: cables are run, boxes are fixed at the planned heights, and the switchboard is prepared. Final fit-off happens after the painters have finished, when the switches, outlets and light fittings go on and the whole installation is tested before handover.
All of it is carried out to AS/NZS 3000, the wiring standard New Zealand electrical work is done to. All work is carried out by, or supervised by, Registered Electricians. Electrical Plus is led by Andrew Baker, a Registered Electrician with over 30 years of experience, registered with the Electrical Workers Registration Board. Every qualifying installation is completed with the appropriate Electrical Compliance Certificate and backed by our Lifetime Workmanship Warranty.
Yes. We regularly work alongside builders, architects, kitchen companies and project managers to ensure the electrical work is completed at the right stage. Clear communication and careful scheduling help keep your project running smoothly.
Absolutely. We work with you before construction begins to create a practical electrical layout tailored to the way you live. We'll provide ideas and advice on lighting, power points, switches, TV and data points, EV charging, USB outlets and future-proofing so everything is in the right place before the walls are lined.
Prewire is completed before the walls are lined and includes running cables, positioning power points, switches and lighting, and preparing the switchboard. Final fit-off happens once painting is complete and involves installing switches, power points, light fittings and testing the entire installation before handover.
Every cable is labelled and photographed before plasterboard is installed. This creates a permanent record of your wiring, making future renovations, fault finding and additions much easier without unnecessary damage to your walls. It's one of the ways we work ahead to deliver a smoother, more organised project.
Yes. This is one of the areas where we add the most value. With over 30 years of experience, we can suggest practical improvements that make your home more functional, improve lighting, reduce future alterations and help future-proof your electrical installation.
We supply and install a wide range of switch and power point styles to suit every home, from classic white finishes through to modern architectural designs. Popular ranges include PDL Iconic, PDL 600 Series, Excel Life and Vynco Home, with options available in a variety of colours and finishes. If you're unsure which style best suits your home, we'll happily bring sample plates to your consultation and help you choose the right option to complement your renovation or new build.
