A successful kitchen or bathroom renovation starts long before the cabinets, tiles and fittings are installed. Good electrical planning means your power points, lighting, appliances and ventilation are planned in the right places before walls are closed and cabinetry goes in.
We work alongside you, your builder or designer to plan the electrical layout around how you'll actually use the space, including lighting positions, switching, appliance locations and anything worth allowing for in the future.

Bathrooms are treated as wet areas under AS/NZS 3000, the wiring standard New Zealand electrical work is carried out to. That governs how close a fitting, switch or power point can sit to a bath, basin or shower, and what protection the circuits serving them need. Kitchens bring their own constraints, mostly around fixed appliances, which usually want their own circuits sized for the load rather than sharing a general power circuit.
Ventilation is the part people most often leave until last and most often regret. An extractor fan needs to be ducted to the outside rather than into the ceiling space, and both the fan and its ducting are much easier to fit while the ceiling is still open.
All work is carried out by, or supervised by, Registered Electricians. Electrical Plus is led by Andrew Baker, a Registered Electrician with over 30 years of experience, registered with the Electrical Workers Registration Board. Every renovation is completed with the appropriate Electrical Compliance Certificate and backed by our Lifetime Workmanship Warranty.
As early as possible. Ideally, we should be involved before cabinetry, wall linings and finishes are finalised. This gives us time to plan lighting, power points, switching, appliances, ventilation and any future requirements before the wiring begins.
Yes. Send us your plans and we can review the electrical requirements, discuss your ideas and provide a quote. We can also suggest lighting, power point and switching locations based on how the finished space will be used.
Yes. Renovations are a good opportunity to move or add power points, switches and lighting controls. We'll assess the existing wiring and work out the best way to achieve the new layout before walls and cabinetry are finished.
It depends on the room and how you use it. Kitchens often benefit from a combination of general lighting, task lighting and feature lighting, while bathrooms may include downlights, vanity or mirror lighting and softer lighting options. We'll help plan the lighting around the finished space.
Yes. We regularly coordinate with builders, kitchen companies, plumbers and other trades so the electrical work happens at the right stages and doesn't hold up the renovation.
Not necessarily. We'll assess the existing switchboard and electrical installation to determine whether it has suitable capacity and protection for the proposed work. If an upgrade or additional protection is required, we'll explain why and include it in the scope of work.
Yes. We'll provide the appropriate electrical certification and documentation required for the electrical work we've completed, which for a renovation is normally an Electrical Compliance Certificate.
